SPIDER IN THE CUPBOARD

I think it’s pretty universal to want to help when someone is struggling (I’d hope so anyway), especially someone you care about. But it’s rarely as simple as you being able to provide the solution straight away; maybe it's something they need to do themselves, not really an issue that can be ‘solved’, or not something you can involve yourself in without endangering yourself. How do you reconcile protecting yourself when doing so seemingly neglects people who need you? It’s a complicated question, one where the answer is likely different for each person, and is at the core of Spider in the Cupboard’s conflict.
Spider is a new-wave psychological horror, and it means a lot to me. Some of my influences include Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man (2020), Michael Haneke’s Cache (2005) and Guest (2020), a short film directed by Finn Callan.
